about

Thaxted [Gustav Holst]
Leaving Old England [Trad, new words & music Nancy Kerr]
‘Folk Songs Of Australia’, edited by John Meredith, is the source of the chorus to this defiant song about English emigration. Some of the words come from Mary Byrnes, collected in Sydney in 1954, and the tune is partly inspired by less common versions of ‘Botany Bay’ and ‘The Springtime it Brings on the Shearing’. We couldn’t resist
weaving in a couple of other anthems, including one of the most beautiful hymns ever written.
